Draft Plate
Can someone pls help me troubleshoot problems with my gas water heater?
I have a gas hot water heater, the pilot light keeps going out, I have to light it at least twice a day, have been told it could be a "therma cuple" or the ignitiion plate needs cleaning, it coule be a draft ... I am a woman, without a man and clueless ... can someone give me a clue before I call a plumber and get ripped off.
About 99% chance its the Thermocouple and you will probably need to have a pro change it for you...usually requires pulling the burner out and that's a job for someone with proper knowledge. Someone with small hands might do it in place but I usually pull it out.
The part costs about $5 and its usually a service call plus about an hour or less of time but that is assuming the job goes perfectly with none of those pesky problems that can crop up when doing repairs on anything.
