Hybrid Remote
Would i Be able to use a TV Tuner card to put my Hi8 tapes onto my computer?
I am customizing a Dell inspiron 530 and it gives the option for a Hauppauge HVR1250 hybrid TV Tuner with Remote Control for $60 more. I remember hearing that you can use a TV tuner to record the tapes to the computer like a video capture Device.
If a TV Tuner does work like a capture card, Should i get the Tv Tuner or a USB Capture Device.

It looks like it has an RCA input and an s-video
Either will work and have different advantages/disadvantages.
TV tuner does not have RCA inputs like your Hi8 camcorder outputs, so you would have to buy something like an RF Modulator. Advantage of being able to watch TV, Disadvantage of having to buy an extra part.
The capture card, will work directly with the Hi8 camcorder, and no extra parts necessary. So, once all your Hi8 are converted out, probably not going to have a whole lot of use for it. This option will also probably come with video editing software however, so if you don't have that already, could be invaluable.
