Pulley needs to be replaced on my car, what are the risks of driving it like this?

Something is wrong with the pulley in my car, it needs to be replaced and the part is not readily available. It's squealing really bad and it makes me nervous driving it like this. Basically, I want to know if it's safe to drive this thing while I'm waiting on the part, and what can go wrong, and what I should look out for.
The belts have been replaced twice in the past week, it's not the belts. It's still under warranty so no one's milking me for extra bucks. I'm also hoping that the mechanic wouldn't have told me to drive it if it was about to completely fall apart. And I really don't know what pulley it is, just that it's a pulley. Hopefully this gives some more info. Thanks for all the answers

The risk is that it will break, your water pump will quit and you'll burn up the engine.
