Technician Lot

Are ultrasound technician's allowed to tell you what they are seeing whether it is good or bad?

I had a pelvic ultra sound done today because my gyno said my uterus is enlarged. The technician kept a poker face and when I asked what she could tell me she said the radiologist has to look at it because there is a lot of measuring. Which brings me to my next questions: What was she measuring and what are the black spots on the screen? I hate that i have to wait 2 freakin days! If she DID see something, would she have brought someone in immediately?

The technologist isn't a doctor, so they can't really tell you anything. A radiologist has to look at the ultrasound and decide if there's anything wrong. The tech's really aren't allowed to tell you anything - I had problems earlier in my life, I was a paramedic, the tech KNEW me and wouldn't tell me anything, so don't feel bad. It has to do with medical ethics, and it would be irresponsible of the tech to try to interpret what they are seeing, so calm down and wait - I know it stinks, but it really is best to have the right person read your ultrasound.
